by chance is this a Virtual install of the unsupported CentOS 6.5 ?

6.5 is unsupported
6.6 is also unsupported

6.7 is the current in the older 6 series


also in Centos 6 you have two network managers and both can not be "on" at the same time
Network
and
Network Manager ( includes wireless )

check your system services and see what one is on

network manager has a icon in the gnome2 toolbar ( lower right ) next to the sound icon

NetworkManagr is disabled, only network services are running.
