startx won't start - goes back to textual login - what to do??
Hi all,
here's another problemo I have come across. After an unclean shutdown, my Linux won't go back into the GUI. I get to the textual login and I manage to login, but when I go to launch the startx appliaction it goes into boot mode then returns some errors and goes back to the textual login screen.
Is there any way to rescue the GUI?? or have the files been damaged beyond recuperation by the unclean shutdown?? In a windows9X system, if the computer has not been shutdown properly it does a scandisk and usually things go back to normal. I thought that the scandisk function provided by Linux (fsick) would fix any errors acquired by an unclean shutdown.
Can anyone please help - how to get the GUI back up and running without having to re-install Linux??
TIA
