StartX only shows blank screen until reboot

I'm running redhat 7.3 on a Dell Inspiron 3700. Everything was working fine until I closed the lid. This caused the system to go into standby. Now when I run 'startx' I only get a blank screen. The only way out is with a hard reboot. "Ctrl, Alt, bspace" doesn't do anything.

Gnome was working fine before this. I assume X still thinks that the system is in standby. Or something has corrupted it.

Cinders thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately nothing on that page helped. X was working fine for a number of days. I've even reinstall the XFree86-4.2.0.8. Still the same thing.

The computer starts fine. Everything except for X works. BTW, there doesn't seam to be any error reported in the XFree86.0.log file.

Anyone have any other thoughts?
