I'm trying to start up x (twm). But i get a message stating that my screen is not found, and that a configured device was found, but the display modes were not resolved.

Is there a way to reconfigure the svga hardware? and how?

at the root prompt type:
XFree86 -configure than:
xf86config

which will ask a bunch of questions about your hardware.
