Startup script problem

Hello all,
Currently I am facing a problem with my shell. Its like whenever the shell appears it shows me this message
-bash : /root : is a directory
-bash : /root : is a directory
and then gives the prompt
[root@localhost root]

Any idea why is this happening?
thanks in advance.

Are you logged in as root when you're bringing up the shell? If so, post the output of this command...

less /root/.bash_profile

less /root/.bashrc

and if you're not already root when you're trying to open a shell, do these instead and post the output...

less ~.bash_profile

less ~/.bashrc

and we'll start there...
