Startup Problems

I am trying to run the Knoppix CD live on my computer when I boot up.

I get a bue screen, then I type Knoppix and it appears to load, it shows text of all differenr colours and then it says that things have failed. Then a black screen comes on after some time and that is it, no unix no nothing; a black screen.

I then tried failsafe and the same happended.

Can anyone help me get started with it?

Did you try any different resolutions for your X server settings?

Nope, and to be honest I do not have a clue what that is. I tried mucking about a bit and then I got sick of it and posted here.

I would try either

knoppix screen=800x600
or
knoppix xmodule=vesa
next.

You can boot it with nousb, but you won't be able to use your keyboard.

I don't think I have seen a usb keyboard. Why did you choose a usb keyboard?

It came with my computer, Packard Bell next generation computers lol!

Edited: I think it is kinda essential to have a keyboard when using linux os, so I think I am buggered.

That's one reason I "roll my own" computers, so I can get stuff I know works with Linux.

There are places in the US you can buy real keyboards for about $2 each. You might look around at business dustbins upgrading to new stuff and get one even cheaper.

What do they call "dumpster diving" there, dustbin digging?

Is that the Knoppix 3.3 Live CD? I know that 3.3 detects a usb mouse, at least.

Well it is 3.3 but I live in the UK where you cannot find a single thing, even in a sale, that is not over priced. The cheapest I could get hold of 1 for is about 4 at a computer fair.

It's a shame you can't reach over here into my junkbox. I have 3 or 4 extras lying around for spare parts.

It is also a shame that despite the amount of users that are registered here, only you have replied to this topic.

It feels great getting so much help from so little people. Thanks and tell everyone else they are soo lazy!

I will post here again when I get a "proper" keyboard.
