Startup items

I'm in the homestretch of setting up my laptop! Video works, sound works. I've just a couple more things I want to finish up and I'm happy!

I'm using Mandrake 9.1

One thing I need to correct is the startup items. I have something in the startup that I don't want there and there's something I want in there (GAIM) that I want to start when I start Linux. I've tried using the "Save Current Setup" selection, but that doesn't help. On Windows, I'd go to first the "Startup" directory and then to msconfig to finish things up. What's the Linux equivalent?

Thanks all!

If you use kde it would be /home/user/.kde/Autostart . Not sure exactly where it is in Gnome but its probably similar.

I found /home/user/.gnome, but there's no Autostart or similar directory. Anyone else have any ideas?

I also have some desktop items that don't seem to go away no matter how many times I delete them. They just re-appear the next time I log in. Any ideas to get rid of those?
