Starting X-Windows server from terminal

ok, I'm running RH9 and sometimes when I actually use Gnome (KDE's so much kooler... or so it seems..) it will crash on me if I do something it doesn't like... but then I can press CTRL + ALT + F1 or something of the sort and switch to another virtual desktop as I believe they're called... basically i get a text-based Interface, well my question is how can I load the X-Windows server from there?

to load the X server from the terminal, type:

startx

I think "X" should also work.. but it hasn't really done anything for me.

If the X server is already running you wont b able to start it using startx instead it is preferable to restart it by doing CTRL + ALT + BACKSPACE when it is messed up.

why don't you give it a try first...? no harm is done in doing it (unless you do it without saving whatever you're working on)
