starting X causes immediate shutoff

Ive just completed the text install for Fedora Core 6. I login to root and everything seems to be fine. when i run the command startx my machine turns off without anything being displayed to the screen. Im not an expert so im a little lost here since no error seems to be displayed.

Some notes:
Two monitors
Nvidia Video card
The graphical installation only displayed lines all over which is why i used the text install.
Ive installed the nvidia drivers from livna using yum.

I've never used Fedora core, or nvidia drivers so this may not be much help, but...

try looking in the directory /var/log (if it exists) for a file called Xorg.0.log (or something similar). X logs everything to this file on my system, and usually near the end it will tell you why it died. Try googleing the error, or posting it here and someone may beable to help.
