Starting Linux with Linux XP (don't flame me!)... how do I install my wireless card?
 

Alright, I was tired of windows so I'm gaving linux a try with Linux XP... so everything is smooth, and I just installed it.. but it didn't automatically detect my wireless card. Where do I go from here? I mean, the card I have doesn't offer linux drivers. BTW: it's an Encore ENLWI-G . Thanks soo much, I'm hoping after I get the internet up, I can start learning more with it. -KEn

Step one, you have to know what chipset your card uses. I suspect that card has a Marvell ... You may be in trouble. What is the output of $ lspci

I searched a bit and, indeed, your chipset is a Marvell. I don't know if that's good news or bad news. Anyway, try downloading ndiswrapper and "make" it (you need the kernel source to do that; know nothing about Linux XP so I just suppose it's there). You then take the windows drivers and install them using ndiswrapper. Good Luck

Thanks rich and Sera... I'm going to give ndiswrapper a try and see what happens... Also, there's a crackling sound on the speakers- tried several ones... is it due to a driver error in linux itself... or should I install the motherboard drivers too?

The sound problem is probably caused by wrong ALSA driver. I have no experience on Linux XP so your on your own to check this.
