Start up issues

I just installed ubuntu 9.10 the other day and everything worked perfectly i updated it and shut it down next day when i turned it on after i picked the os in grub it starts to load untill it does a scndsk then it freezes up at 72% if i hit esc to stop it im put into a maintenance shell.

i ctrl-d to retry it takes me back into scndsk and freezes. when i first installed the os i did a mem test everything was green now everything is red if i do one. i was going to reinstall the os and just format again but its freezn up lol.

Hi, welcome to LQ!

And that most likely means that either the hardware is giving up the ghost,
