Some Thoughts On Diagnostics
Enter CTRL+ALT+F1.
You should come to a text-mode login. Before logging in, try entering CTRL+ALT+F7. You should return to your KDE display. If you click on something now, does it work? If that does not work, go back to your x-term session (CTRL+ALT+F1), and poke around in your logs sudo tail /var/log/syslog and sudo tail /var/log/messages. Also check the output of dmesg | less. There might be something tell-tale there indicating what is wrong. If you see X config errors, you'll probably need to reconfigure, and that is yet another step. |
lack of visible response
Dear Sir,
this is merely speculation but what monitor do you have? Flat screen events can be very perscriptive in what they allow to be displayed. Perhaps an old CRT monitor at 800x600 resolution before going to the command line? Roy. |
xorg logs might show something
Look in /var/log/Xorg.0.log or something similar.
Look for any warnings ('WW') This might tell you that something might not work. Try forcing a low screen res. |
