Yes, the web server won't really care about the space because it gets encoded.
(see the %20 in the URL?)

I don't use an IDE. I thought we were troubleshooting your web server because you were talking about Rewrite and .htaccess files. That is now working as you expect, then, yes?
(I missed when you started talking about your IDE)

Perhaps if you post which IDE you're using, someone with experience/knowledge about that tool will jump in to help.

After fixing that one directory from "10-INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY" to "10-INFORMATION_TECHNOLOGY", I rebooted my computer and fired up MAMP and my IDE.

The same problem is occurring...

- If my .htaccess file is disabled (i.e. named "+.htaccess"), and I launch my index.php page from my IDE, then it loads my home page okay with the following address: http://local.mysite/index.php

- If I then change the URL in the address bar to: http://local.mysite/ then the home page still loads okay.

- If I quit Firefox, load it again, and type into the address bar the following address http://local.mysite/index.php then my home page also loads.

- If I quit Firefox, load it again, and type into the address bar the following address http://local.mysite/ then my home page loads.

However...

- If the .htaccess file is enabled, and I launch my index.php page from my IDE, then my home page does NOT load, and in the address bar I see: http://local.mysite/Users/user1/Docu...to/public_html

The page says:
Code:
Not Found The requested URL /Users/user1/Documents/path/to/public_html was not found on the server.

- If I quit Firefox, load it again, and type into the address bar the following address http://local.mysite/index.php then I get the same page not found.

- If I quit Firefox, load it again, and type into the address bar the following address http://local.mysite/ then my home page loads.

All of this was working fine until a couple of days ago?! What is wrong???

I mentioned my IDE to give you the full sequence of what I am doing.

The "A" in MAMP stands for Aache and that is indeed my web server - whether I launch a web page using my IDE or I go into a new browser window and type in a URL and launch a page that way.

@scasey,

The answer to my issue was adding this...
Code:
RewriteBase /

On my old MacBook, I had MAMP with Apache 2.2.29, but on my new MacBook I had MMP with Apache 2.2.34, and apparently betwen those minor versions Apache.org changed how mod_rewrites work?! (Same goes for my VPS running Apache 2.4.xx)

It's always something simple.

Shame I lost over a week of time on something so stupid?! *sigh*
