standard root pass on gentoo fresh install?

Right i've just installed gentoo it was a live cd never took me through any installation process and im logged in as a normal user and can't get in as root. When ive installed others like backtrack it gave me the standard user and pass as root and toor ame with suse and asked me if i wanted to change them but this gentoo hasn't. I've googled and i only get people saying that if they haven't got the root pass then they mustn't be entitled to it! Can someone please tell me what the standard root user and pass is in gentoo on a fresh install? Please don't tell me that i get the choice when installing because i didn't it went straight to the desktop from loading it up!

cheers

Sounds like you did a GUI install - did you read the handbook ???.
Last time (hmmm - make that "every time") I did a gentoo install I had to add users, and set up the root password - by default it didn't have one.
But I always use the minimal CD, so if you used the GUI based liveCD I can't really help.
