Stall on boot, lose power to interfaces?
 

I just completed a full system update. Left it on over night to finish the process. Woke up to a black screen... Had full functionality before. The computer has a second hard drive with windows 7 which works fine.

When attempting to boot the computer, it successfully completes the progress bar phase of the boot process but after that just goes black. I pressed escape before the progress bar and it said something about

CPU1: Not Responding
CPU2: Not Responding
CPU3: Not Responding

then hits the progress bar where I then proceed to press escape. Everything in the boot process passes except for a failed MSIX in the beginning. after the progress bar, there is just a blank screen. I installed the ATI drivers for the graphics card and it was working correctly before. Got it from the AMD site. Also, there is no power to my keyboard or any interface at that matter when I hit the black screen. This may mean there is a hardware issue. I'm just not too familiar with the full boot process and the chain that occurs.

Here's my computer:
ASROCK p67 pro3
Intel I5-2500K
8Gb of Memory
ASUS ATI Radeon 6850
Soundblaster Live card
M-Audio Audiophile 196
320Gb HDD WesternDigital - Centos 6.0
500Gb HDD WesternDigital - Windows 7

I tried booting into single user mode but it just goes straight to the black screen after all the boot up prompts.

Any help would be great. Thanks for reading this far...

P.S. - Windows 7 HDD still works

Sounds like it's hanging badly. Boot from the install cd and have a look in the logs(if any).

My impatient side forced the hand on this one. It was hard to read the debug output on startup but the last thing I saw was:

"Starting user interface STP failed"

and that's where it cut out. May have been something got corrupted during the system update.

Anyway... It was a new build, nothing was on it and to save time and frustration, I just wiped the hard drive and am re-installing Centos. I know that's probably not the solution people want to hear... Thanks for the response though.

No, that's good enough. All we could do with that situation was narrow down what was causing a disaster - you still had the disaster to deal with. Mark this solved (presuming Centos functions) and post again if you have issues
