Stack at Starting Up - Ubuntu
 

Hello

I would like to ask you for help. I installed Linux Ubuntu 9.04, my first Linux installation.
I kept Windows XP on one drive C: and put Ubuntu to another drive. Installation went succesfull, when I restart PC, Grub is loaded up, I choose generic version and then can see text:
Boot from (hdd0,0) ext3 ....
Starting up

and nothing, it won´t start.

When I insert DVD into drive and restart, Ubuntu´s menu is automatically loaded up, when I choose Start from first boot disc.. then everything is working, Starting up message is up for 2 sec and then Ubuntu starts.

Anybody know where could be a problem, why Ubunt won´t start itself withoug DVD?

even i have installed ubuntu 9.04 recently, wen windows vista is in c drive.
ubuntu, i have kept at d drive..
i didnt face any problem as u told.. its working properly,
can u be little more specific how u have installed.
bcos there may be some problem in the installation, i guess!!

But, even i know its a simple procedure with ubuntu...

Well

I´ve got 3 HDDs.
hd0 - 120GB / D: /
hd1 - 300GB
hd2 - 640GB / C: is from this HDD, 100GB partition /

When partition wizard started up, I took option 2 - Install on full HDD - 120 GB HDD

So, Windows is on 3th HDD, 1st partition
and Ubuntu was installed on 1st HDD, 1st partition

Well, what is confusing me, is that it is not booting by normal way. However it works if I put DVD into drive and choose option Boot from first disk in ubuntu´s start menu.


I shall also mention that Grub does not load Windows neither. I get message : Cant find C:\Windows\Systerm .... I think it is because HDD boot priority in bios is set 1. 120GB where Linux is, 2. 640GB - where Windows is

can it be a problem that after installation I changed HDD boot sequence in Bios?

yes, definitely. You need to update /boot/grub/menu.lst accordingly
use the livecd and mount them and check with their contents which is which, and use that to update root lines in the file.

I did. I reinstalled Grub. it did not help. Here is the data from report.
