sshing to box1 takes me to box2

Hello Forum:

I am experiencing a weird situation. When I ssh to, let us call it, box1 with a public IP, I end up sshing to box2 with a private IP. Both boxes can see each other since they have private IPs in the same network in the eth1 interface.

I don't know if this is good information to get anyone of you started with any feedback. If you need any other info that I am missing at the moment, please let me know.

Both boxes are running Centos 5.5

Thanks.

Sounds to me like you have port forwarding setup on your router and it is probably forwarding to box 2 in your case.

Is there a way for me to check that on anyone of the boxes or that is something I need to let the network administrator know about?

You might want to talk with your network administrator about what they allow through the router/firewall. However if you can get to box2, then once you have a session to box2 just ssh from their into box1. In other words piggy back another ssh session with your first one.
