sshfs without fuse?

Hi. I was wondering if it was possible to have a mounted remote ssh filesystem (like sshfs) on a system that does not have FUSE installed (i.e., the admins won't include the module). I'm betting the answer is "no", but I thought it might be worth asking, because I know at least that individual applications can have their own personal virtual remote file systems (e.g., Emacs using tramp).

well yes, from the perspective that gvfs also provides this, but if there's no fuse, I'd presume a modern gnome desktop is just as unlikely.
