SSH works on Windows but Fedora Core 3?

I have a Windows XPP desktop and FC3 laptop, both have SSH. I used to use SSH at Win XPP desktop and now trying to use it with my laptop which has FC3. Whenever I type "ssh <my.school.server.name> it gives me "permission denied". I can connect to the remote server but got the message after I hit password. Why?

How exactly are you connecting? Unless you have the same username as in school you need to specify it with "ssh loginname@domain" or "ssh -l loginname IP" or some other combination.

Got it

make sure "Daemon" is on by typing /etc/init.d/sshd start"
to stop "Daemon" /etc/init.d/sshd stop"

Connect using SSH
type 'ssh username@system.server.name'
