SSH keys

Dear All,

In every users home directory in Linux under ~/.ssh/ we will have id_rsa and id_rsa.pub keys generated, If we use ssh-keygen command. And these keys are helpful in encryption and decryption.

But why /etc/ssh/ssh_host_rsa and /etc/ssh/ssh_host_rsa.pub keys are required ?

Thanks in advance.

To identify the computer in the communications. If your
account connects to a server for the first time via ssh
it will ask you whether you trust the machine. If you say
'yes' the machines public key will be added to your ~/.ssh/know_hosts
file. If you then re-install the machine or someone spoofs
its name ssh will let you know about it based on that key.

Cheers,
Tink
