ssh - connection reset by peer

hi everyone,
similar subjects has been posted many times, but none of them solved my problem..so i decided to post it myself..

i am using opensuse 10.3. My ssh connections get disconnected after a very short time (app. 5 mins) with an error "connection reset by peer".

i have made some modifications on the conf file but it didn't solve out my problem..

do you have any idea?

thanks..

This could be a number of things, probably none SSH related. Can you please provide more information? Is the server you are connecting to OpenSuse or just your workstation? Are you connecting to a distant server (Internet) or to another machine on your LAN? (home LAN, school, or office?)

i am at home, openSuse 10.3 is the distro i am using. i am behind the NAT of my router. The software of provided with the router is so terrible that i can not make any NAT modifications. Only modification i can make is port forwarding. but the ssh ports are open, i can make the connection.

i am connecting to servers of the university, so i don't think the destination host is getting down.

It doesn't matter which server i connect, i get disconnected with the same error message.

Are you doing anything (typing) when you are disconnected or is the connection idle for awhile? Your best bet may be to contact your server admin. It could be their firewall or SSH server set to timeout.

Have you tried running ssh in debug mode?

i get disconnected when i am idle for several minutes. I checked it out with the same computer on somewhere else. there it was ok, i didn't get disconnected. So i think it has to be something with my modem/router. But i have no idea how to change the settings of it..
