SSH and terminal windows

ok heres what im trying to do.

ssh to a machine on my network

open up a terminal (gnome, xterm, whatever) and have it visible on that machines display

be able to type and execute commands in that window, from my computer.

i have kind of achieved this.

on machine A, i ssh to machine B.

on machine B, i open up a terminal and execute screen, C-a :multiuser on

on machine A, i execute screen -x and connect to the term on B.

everything i type from A or B can be seen..

i just want to be able to set this up without having to physically be at machine B.

does that make sense?

There is no real good way to do this unless you want to start exporting your displays across or alternately just start dealing with screen alone (since you could reconnect the terminal at anytime.)

Sounds more like you're looking for GUI RAS to me...

yeah kinda..

basically its for something im trying to do at work. theres guys in another building that work on the same machines i work on. i just want to be able to open up a terminal window and show them what im doing and vis versa, without having to say "hey open up term and screen" rather just do it from where im at.

cant install anything on these machines either so have to use what im workin with.

What flavor of Linux are you using?
A lot of distro's have build in remote access support, like:

Maybe this will do the trick?

i think VNC can rescue you. you can share your desktop with your friends and then show them what to do. the VNC package that you would need depends on which distro you are working on.

vnc desktop sharing, based on what you have said, is about the best result you can hope to find in my opinion.

Have you checked out byobu? May or may not be the kind of thing you are looking for.
