SSH access from outside the LAN?

Hi guys,
Setup Suse9.0 and everything seems fine except I can't ssh from outside the lan - all I receive are "Connection Timed Out" errors. I can SSH to the server from inside the lan fine, but on the outside - nothing.

I had thought maybe my ISP blocked that port so I changed it and made sure forwarding is setup correctly - but nothing still works, I just keep getting "Connection Timed Out".

I tried a google search,b ut it didn't pull up anything to helpful, so I'm hoping you guys can help! Thanks!

If you can connect to your SuSE host from outside the LAN then (if things are configured correctly), you *should* be able to "ssh" into that host. I'd check the following:

1. Make sure the sshd daemon is running on your SuSE host

2. Make sure your SuSE host's firewall isn't configured to block SSH

3. Make sure you can "ping" your SuSE host from your client

4. Make sure you have a compatible version of SSH on your client (for example, the latest version of "puTTY", if you're on a PC)

5. Failing all else, take a network trace and see where things are failing (you could use Ethereal on Linux, and Netmon and/or Ethereal on Windows).

Hope that helps .. PSM
