Unhappy Squid proxy or cache server?

Hi,
I'm new at this posting stuff. Second one actually.
One really silly question.
Is the system that Squid is loaded on considered the proxy server.
I've loaded Squid on system and tried to configure to go thru the firewall for internet requests.
All the documentation I read says point client's browser to proxy server. Would that be the system with Squid installed? I'm guessing here.
Then, would I direct the Squid system to the firewall via squid.conf file?

I guess the terms used are confusing me. I know this is not Networking 101 but any help given would be greatly appreciated.

Squid proxy or cache server

Hi,

Sorry for not making small talk about myself.
Working for police dept in smaller city.
Background limited as far as networking. Most experience in computer repair.

Trying to setup proxy server using Squid to enable users to go to a list of specific sites, ex. court, auditor's.

Picked Squid because it is suppose to have this function and not just filtering sites or blacklist of sites.
Is this correct?

Trying to figure out Linux and Squid in one helping is very confusing to me.

Please accept my apologize in advance for all stupid questions.
