Speedtouch USB 330 modem (silver)

I have just ran the speedtouchconf.sh in linux. It nearly worked.

It stalled at the last hurdle. Result below :-

*** Configuration finished. Starting the connection ***

The modem_run command failed. (code 255)

modem_run results :
Must be run with root priveleges
FAILED because of modem_run error 255

help/advice appreciated
