Speedtouch 330 Mandrake 9.1 SORTED : )

Well not me personally but after pursuing many differnt tutorials and hints on the web I came across this:
"xs4all.nl/~pschram/english.html" (with the ww's but as this is my first post I can't post complete urls duh!)
All the files you need are listed here and the process is explained very simply. (I am a new guy !)
For all you other new guys out there a few things that are obvious once you think about it
1. Kernel only after readin this process did I realise it may not be installed I checked in the mandrake software center and sure enough kernel-source was not installed ( I had assumed it would have installed it self when I set up the OS)

Then I came to a problem I followed the steps but because I had been following other methods and using drakeconnect I got the error message on boot which relates to a network script file and saying "speedtouch.sh" not found!
To fix this log in as a root and loading SYSv Inint editor .
Select the internet module and edit it
Now if you have followed the steps from the link above you should have the files "ip-iup" and "ip-down" in the etc/ppp/ directory.
I copied these to the netowrk scripts directory and used replace all occurences of net_cnx_up with ip-up and like wise with the down one i figured these were the comands to invoke the loging on and off the net at boot.

And now it works

Yes all you pros its lenghty and lacks jargon I persisted for a few hours each night this week trying doffernt things now i've cracked it thanks to help from well everbody really!
Cheers!

Just out of interest, what sort of upload speeds are you getting?
I used http://www.webconexion.net/speedtouc...ch_330_usb.php and my upload speeds are worse than my 56k modem.
Download speeds are fine, though.

Cheers.

Haven't really tried uploading yet.
Performace of the modem is a bit sluggish though.

Although I think it could be the browser or the fact that my pc is a bit underspec for running mandrake

Cool

Hello, I try to get rid off Windows, but I was not able to link to the Internet. The problem seems to be an modem and NIC mix up. I have tried several methods and Howto's and succeeded to link the Internet, but every time for a short period.
I have seen the XS4all site and used the method successfully until I tried to install the Realtek NIC for my home network.
What can I do about this ?
I use a 1000 MHz Duron system with Mandrake9.1, Speedtouch 330, Realtek 8139 NIC, as link between home netwerk and Internet.

Hi,

I switched to RedHat and used the speedtouchconf script, downloaded from Sourceforge.net. This is my first visit under Linux at LinuxQuestions. Iĺl try the same trick at my noteboor under Mdk9.1. I'ĺl let you know the result.
