I am a complete newbie to linux, so please bare with me as I try to explain my situation. Previously I finally got DSL for my laptop (Gateway). The OS is Xandros 1.0. I have been trying to setup the DSL on this laptop. The modem is supposed to be set to DHCP I have followed all kind of forum suggestions but without success.
Eg. Going to "Launch-Control Center-Network-Network Connection and verifing that enable network is check, making sure that I am using DHCP and setting the gateway. When I hit the connection to internet button, I get top banner with my ISP going across the top with dots behind it and then 5 seconds later, the message, "Connection failed". I know that the user name and password is correct. If I have many anything that would be helpful. I would be glad to get that information with some help on how to get it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
When I type "ps as | grep dhcp | grep -v grep" without the quotes, I dont get anything. It just goes back to the prompt. When I type "/sbin/ifconfig" without the quotes, I get the following:
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr "The MAC address"
