Spectrum LiveTV Not working in Linux
Hi folks
In windows 7, I can watch liveTV at watch.spectrum.net after logining in with my account using firefox or chrome browser. Firefox and chrome browser in linux will not play the liveTV despite the browsers having the latest adobe flash player. Is there a fix for these, or specturm is just another company that don't care to support linux? Thx I am using Mint and PClinusOS. |
Don't use it myself but often this problem is resolved in firefox by going to the Edit tab, scroll down to preferences, click on it and on the new page scroll down to Digital Rights Management and click the check box to the left. You might also try installing a User Agent switcher in firefox, Tools, Add-ons and in the upper right search box type user agent switcher and select one. I don't use the site you refer to so this is a general suggestion you can try. Surprised google chrome doesn't work as it usually does with these other TV sites.
If you continue to have problems, you need to indicate exactly what happens when you try, what error or warning messages you get, screen goes black or white, etc., the more detail the more likely you will get a solution. |
Spectrum doesn't support Linux for their livetv ap. I would complain to Spectrum and insist they support Linux. It's been the same way for at least 10 years, before Spectrum existed. There is no easy workaround. It's a proprietary codec licensing issue.

You first need to find out if it uses some plug in or really does use flash. Nothing on their web sites gives me a clue. You could use working OS to discover how it might be connecting and using the stream.
Possible to that your browsers are not reporting to their servers correctly or some geo-ip issue or cookie issue. |

One good thing though, Netflix works very well in linux with firefox and the chrome browser. I'll just watch spectrum on my android tablet. |
As you've noticed, Adobe flash and linux has a rocky past and present.

The majority of sites that uses flash have worked so far, it's very rare to get a site not working with the latest flash plug-in. But as you said, some sites will be rocky with flash. I would imagine the stars, the moon and the sun have to be perfectly aligned. Little joke there :-) |
