Spawning a Linux window on a Windows PC?

Hi,

I have two PC's networked together. One has Redhat and the other is Windows 2000.

I am trying to figure out a way so that whenever a Linux terminal is running, it redirects its output to the Windows 2000 PC. How do I do this? Also, is there a way to reposition the window when it spawns on the Windows side?

I don't want to use VNC. It's typically too slow. Plus we don't have any licenses for it. What other solutions are there?

There are GPL versions of VNC, and I have had decent success using TightVNC to control Windows machines across the internet.

But to answer your specific question, you need to install cygwin and cygwin-X on the Windows machines. You then can establish remote sessions (including X-Windows sessions) via ssh using Windows PC clients. You will find ordinary terminal sessions to be quite adequately fast, and X sessions will be OK if you have a fast enough network connection.

Agree with Jim, Putty SSH into your linux box from your XP machine. If you want "X" you could install Exceed (Hummingbird) which emulates an X-windows interface on a windows machine( PC X-server). It allows you to run your linux box's x programs on your windows box.
