Spamassassin Stop Sliently

Hi! all,

I'm running RH9, sendmail 8.12.10 and recently just installed Spamassassin (SA) 2.44 from rpm that comes w/ RH CD. After I installed SA and created the file /etc/procmailrc, the SA works fine and were able to filter the spam. But sometimes, when I check the maillog, the msg "connect() to spamd failed". I realized that the SA was stopped sliently since there is no log in /var/log/message and /var/log/maillog saying that the SA was shutdown. The questions are

1. Where can I look for the SA shutdown/startup? I believe is in /var/log/message but nth in there.

2. Why the SA shutdown automatically and sliently?

3. How to fix this problem?

After I "service spamassassin restart" , it works fine again and able to filter spam. There is no "pattern" to let me know what the reason to make SA stop sliently. It seems to be happened randomly.

Any help apprciated. Thx a lot.
