Sox to remove silence from wav


I am over many RTFM operations and unsuccessful attempts with the silence effect of sox.
Could you please help me with giving some example commands using sox that automatically remove silence from
- the beginning
- the end
- both ends
of a wav file?
Please give me examples that work in practice (I am over the ones that should work theoretically).

Thanks, this thread is rather obsolete.

I could solve the problem an other way:

Modified the C source code of the utility (trackscan) I use to split albums into tracks so that now it removes the trailing silence from the end of the last track.

This was the first C program I dared to change...
