soundcard problems

i've had recurring problems with various linux distributions. my crystal soundfusion card hasn't ever worked, and i'm unsure what to do.

under redhat, the sound would always go to /dev/null. under mandrake, the sound is set up for a directory that does not exist. i haven't found any place that explains troubleshooting this problem.

thanks in advance.

Are you using ALSA or OSS? I couldn't find any listing for a "Crystal Soundfusion" card on ALSA's site but I did some googling and I found that some sound card called Crystal Soundfusion uses the CS4280 chip, which is supported by ALSA. Check here for details on how to get it working. My advice, though, is to find out what chip your card uses and then see if it's supported by ALSA.
