Sound system settings not preserved after reboot

I'm using Ubuntu 11.10. My PC does not have microphone and I have external Logitech camera with built-in mic. I use it all the time when use Skype. To change the input I modify it in System Settings -> Sound -> and then in Hardware and Input tab select my mic. It works fine until I restart system. Every time after restart I have to repeat this procedure.
Could someone please help me to make the change permanent?
Thanks in advance.

It should keep the settings unless you are running it from live CD, are you?
Otherwise open the terminal find out the process for sound settings, then close it, and then in the terminal type sudo before the command for the sound settings. Change as you wish, after that the settings should remain after reboot.
