Yeah, I couldn't get to recompiling my kernel this weekend, but I believe I will give it a go next weekend. Thanks for the explanation above about oss and alsa's relation. It helps my general understanding for linux. As well, thanks to everyone for all the help in this thread, I appreciate you taking the time to help out the new people. It is greatly appreciated.
