Sound problem??sound familair??
 

Well,I know alot of people been writing about there sound problem,
Here's mine:
Obiviously I cant get sound nothing no play test sound or anything
status:

Vendor:Rockwell international

module:disabled

I ran sndconfig,it told me the card is supported,but not working And to try turning off pnp in the bios,But my bios has no option for that (unless it also goes by something else)But I saw a OS option(figure I'll try it) the options were "Win98" "win2000" and "OTHER" I put it to "OTHER" just to see what happens.
Then after I changed that setting in the bios, and ran sndconfig it said my sound card was not supported,I dont know if that option I changed means anything,please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's a weird problem you've got there. I would open up the case and physically look at your sound card to determine what it is and it's chipset. I would then do a search at www.google.com/linux with my chipset in there to see if anyone else has had this problem and what module is correct. I would then try to do modprobe <modulename> as root in console to make sure my sound card will work. I would also find out what motherboard you have and then do a search on www.google.com or www.google.com/linux to find out how to disable plug and play in the BIOS. I would also check to make sure that you can do it in the BIOS or if I you have to do it with a jumper setting on the motherboard itself. I would also search in www.google.com/linux for my motherboard and see if other people out there have had to select "other" as their OS option or if they left it as is. After all is said and done, I would check the permissions of my sound server /dev/dsp to make sure you have access to it. Hope this helps:D

Well,Almost got it now.....

I went and got "Open sound system"(oss) downloaded installed ect ect.....
That didn't work niether,So I tried goign back into the bios to see if I overlooked my option on settin "pnp os to no",no it wasnt there but I saw another option for large disk support or something like that, it was on "DOS"
so I switched that to "OTHER"as well I switched the OS option to other(stated above),
went into linux sound works fine,So I decided to take out "OSS"
but now the sound doesn't work,I think its cause when I installed "oss" it disable my current drivers in linux ,,I dont know how to get them back if that is the reason..!!!!!!!! also here's an output of my
modules.config file"

Now see, I dont have "oss" anymore so I have to switch this right????

Sorry I haven't responded in a while, I lost the post.

I don't really know anything about OSS to be honest. Hopefully someone else here will have a better answer for you. :)
