Sound playback lost on Suse 10.2 after connfiguring beryl on startup

Hi,

Im a newbie in Linux and installed Suse 10.2 in my Compaq Presario V3000z laptop recently. I dual boot it with Vista. I installed ALSA 1.0.14 rc3 drivers yesterday and they all worked fine. Today, I installed Beryl and configured it to load on startup. Suddenly, the sound playback stopped.I have checked the ALSA mixer and all the volume levels are non-zero. Theres no muting on too. Checked in Vista and everything works fine. Reinstalled the ALSA drivers and that didnt solve the problem too. Reset the sound card configuration in Yast and that didn't work too. Could somebody please help me in this regard ?

My sound controller is nVidia Corporation MCP51 High Definition Audio (rev a2). All the applications run fine, the mixer looks fine.running Amarok shows its playing the music,but i dnt hear anything out of my speakers. Tried playing an mp3 file in the command mode using aplay command and it says its playing the file, but i dont hear anything. Im pretty sure i haven't got deaf. Plz help.

I can't think of anything Beryl has to do with the sound server. How did you configure it to load on startup?

Well, i added beryl-xgl to .kde/Autostart and then added the code

#!/bin/sh
beryl-manager --no-force-window-manager &

to .kde/Autostart/beryl-manager. I have just removed beryl from startup and reinstalled the ALSA 1.0.14rc3 drivers,but the problem is not fixed. This decides that Beryl is not the problem. I see all the applications running fine, the ALSA sound mixer looks fine,but no sound comes out of the speaker.

Just for fun rename your /home/<username>/.kde folder (like .kde.old) and re-login.
Sound or no sound?

Found out the problem,but couldn't fix it. Well,there was some updates which happened which screwed up the sound. I reinstalled Suse and the same problem happened,after some updates with regards to some sound libraries, the xine plugins got corrupted i believe. Even , if i watch videos in Youtube, i dont get any sound. i tried opening a video in Kafeine and get an error saying "Failed to load Xine part, all audio drivers initialisation failed". This is sort of becoming frustrating. How they Suse release such crap updates which screw up Audio initialization.
