sound output from softphones

Hi there, I am newbies in Linux.
Currently I am working on my final year project which is to analysis the performance of various open source softphones.
I have faced a problem in getting the voice output in conversation using these softphones.
From what I observed, I think that most probably is because of the setting in the sound card driver in Linux - OSS and ALSA. But I really cannot figure out which I should use and what have I missed out to configure it that causes no voice output in the voice calling using Kphone.
Another thing that make me confused is that when I connects the microphone to Windows to avoid the sound card problem where I used Twinkle in Ubuntu to call Linphone in Windows, I can get sound output. But in reverse where I call from Linphone to Twinkle, no voice output although the mic still connected to Windows.
I hope my question is clear enough for anyone to give me some advice on how to get the voice output in the VoIP calling using softphones in Linux.
Please leave me some guidance to solve this problem.
Thanks! :-)

in general you need to set the sound in and out devcies to alsa,

then you will probabbly have some choices of device, on every computer i have used default never works,

you should get somthing on the lines of HDA NVidia (hw: NVidia,1) (for an nvidia sound card)
juat try all the possable optons untill one works

Thanks to dasy2k1, I got the sound output during the VoIP calling now. However I notice that there is a different for OSS and ALSA settings. When I call using kphone, with ALSA mode, the sound output is louder but more background noise. When I try call with OSS mode, the background noice reduce and the voice volume also get smaller. Shouldn't both modes will have same output??
