Sound (...or lack of it)
 

I am running MD 8.1 on a PII-350 with 320 MB of RAM.

I'm trying to use the default audio player XMMS, but it is testing my patience!

Firstly the sound from my MP3s are not as loud as in Windows, at the same speaker volume setting. The sound from my CDs is almost non-existance!

The MD Control Centre reports the CD-ROM drive's Vendor as Unknown.

Any advice is appreciated.

Do u know what sound card ur using? u can do a sndconfig and try it that way. R u on a laptop?

I had the same problem. Try to run kmix and set volume to max value. This my help :) .

make sure permissions on /dev/mixer and /dev/sequencer are rwx for everyone, then use any mixer, like kmix to raise the default volume.

I cranked up Aumix, increasing the Volume, PCM and CD settings.

Now it's all working excellent.
