Sound not working on HP Mini 110-3135DX
Hi I am having a hard time finding a descriptive solution on how to fix the sound on my HP Mini 110-3135DX. I just got it and put Ubuntu on it. Can anyone please help me by giving me like a step by step instructions to make my sound work. Kinda like need a "how to fix the sound for dummies". Thanks!

try this:
open a term and type alsamixer. There is a GUI that is very straight forward to use. you should provide more info. |
What type of info? I'm sorry im very new to this and don't really know what im doing...lol

What sound card do u have? Alsamixer will tell you. type this at your command prompt:you@you ~ $ lspci.["you@you ~ $" is your prompt, you wont need to type it.]look trough the output and you will find your audio device.
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 02)[this is my output] Are you using pulsa audio or alsamixer? Go nuts on google. You will find an answer somewhere. look here, if you haven't already. http://ubuntuforums.org/tags.php?tag=no+sound |
So i looked up the audio device....it is says:
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family High Definition Audio Controller (rev 02) and Alsamixer says i have HDA Intel card.... |

ok.. now we are getting somewhere. In alsamaixer you should be able to enable whatever sound output devices you have. check out the attachment. Use arrow keys to navigate to device and make sure all of them are turned on. If Ubuntu can see your devices you should be able to turn them on this way.

@spacazybrittany: Distributions, or in short distros, are the different flavors of Linux like Debian, Arch, Slackware, or in your case Ubuntu. |
In regards to your alsamixer screen, all that means is that you have less devices than I do. If you have all your devices pegged to 100 and you still dont have sound I think you should look through the link I first posted for you and look for a hardware compatibility issue. HP is a solid platform and is well supported as far as I know. Playing with alsamixer and looking on the ubuntu forums as well as youtube is how I solved my sound issue. I am not a Linux command line ninja by any means. If you look hard enough you will find the answer. Linux is simpler than Windoz believe it or not. You just have to put in some time with it. Ubuntu is targeted to newbies. It should work "out of the box" on most any hardware. I have heard of more issues with laptops and the like more than desktops. Keep at it you will find an answer.
B.T.W... Something just dawned on me. You stated alsamixer to show only(master,PCM, and mic).Do you have speakers? Look at my out put again.. Speakers are listed. According to your post you don't seem to have any as far as alsamixer can detect. have you tried headphones yet? |
yea i have speakers. I'm sure where they are located lol...but the reviews about my comp says they have them and that they work well for a netbook. And thanks for your suggestions....i will keep looking for a fix.
