sound mixing

One program could only give sound. Is it possible to make multiple programs to give sound so they do it simutaneously.

The biggest conflict I found is alsa and arts, however when 2 programs are setup to use alsa only one produces sound the other cannot connect.

I think what you need is Jack.

I downloaded and installed jack. I have started it like so in superuser
jackd -R -v -d alsa

however when jack is running no app can use sound, I get error that the sounding device is busy.
