Sound issues in Linux YD 6.1

A window pops up saying this:

Sound server informational message:
Error while initializing the sound driver:
device: default can't be opened for playback (Broken pipe)
The sound server will continue, using the null output device.

I have no sound, cant hear any music. i can see videos but cant hear the audio. Sometimes when i restart my ps3, the audio comes back, but most of the time is gone. I am running Yellow Dog Linux 6.1 on my ps3. Please help

I can't help with this specific hardware and linux distro, sorry. But I had the same sort of problem which in the end required me to learn how to manually compile the "alsa" drivers and utilities for my system.

a steep learning curve! But it was satisfying in the end.

there was a very helpful thread over at:

I'm not sure how applicable this is on a playstation :^)
