THanks for any help and sorry for the long post, I just did not want to leave anything out. |
did the length of my post scare off all help?

anyone? Maybe I need to move this post, could a site-admin please move this post or advise me as to how or what to do next?, Or maybe I posted wrong or not enough info?

hahaha, hey!
umm, i wrote a reply on getting sound set up... this is on MEPIS 3.3.1... but I think it might be the same for you, if you run KDE. If you don't run KDE, its basically the same, just kmix might be alsamixer or something different... http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...26#post1745226 you seemed to know the commands for all that info, so you seemed to have done some work on finding an answer. my first response to your question is close all programs, run 'alsaconf' in a terminal as root. this will do its best to find your sound card. Since its an old SoundBlaster, is it an ISA card? Alsaconf looks for PCI cards, but then when it shows you what it has found it should say "Legacy cards" or something to that effect.... Choose that. Again, it'll do its best to detect and set up. Restart any mixer programs and see if sound works... Maybe its an IRQ issue, but i can't read your output things that well.. sorry. |
you don't have

Hello, and thanks for the replies.....when I recompiled I did configure in support for alsa......and the module snd I belived I compiled in rather than a module.....is there a way to check can I look at .config ? I really am kinda stuck as what to do next..I will recompile with some more support....but as I am choosing modules I never seem to find any of the modules listed that I read on these posts....I save all threads relavant to this issue and read them as I am making my config.......but will try again.....thanks alot
I dont believe I compiled in OSS as it said it was depracated.........should I have? Any help greatly appreciated...thanks again. |
on second thought is it possible to insmod those modules so I dont have to recompile....I would try for myself without asking but I am not at home right now.....wont be for a few hours.....I have no net connection there, so I load up my brain and save these post before I go home.......thanks again.

allright......I was checking this link......
http://www.comptechdoc.org/os/linux/...3/modules.html and I think I answered my own question. I can copy modules and use them if I did not compile them in...correct? As that was for Mandrake and Redhat....what would the appropraite sequence for me be? Thanks again... |
