Sound Dosnt Work

Alright, i posted this before but lost my password and stuff but this is the deal -

I installed Slackware, not sure if most current version or not. I am completely new to linux, so i dont even know how to find out info on anything.

I use KDE, and the sound dosnt work. My computer is a ThinkPad R40 series, and in windows all i could find for audio info is "SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio." Can anyone help me get my sound working? Just let me know if you need anymore info, or whatever. If you want, my AIM is ll DJ L0g1C ll. (those are lower-case "L"s)

alright, i went to terminal and this is what went down -

I ran alsoconf - it said it configure the card and all i have to do is mix the volume appropriately. The only thing is -

ot@logic:~# alsamixer
No mixer elems found

Where can i see if the volume is muted?

If you use kde try kmix, kde uses arts to manage sound like the system sounds. If you have system sounds enabled make sure when you open xmms and try to play something that in right click on it go to options->preferences->output plugins and it is using arts.If you disable system sounds(works better for me in the past)in the kde control center that you select alsa as the output plugin.
