sound detection in Fedora Core 3

i used the command "lspci" as root but it said bad command.
Moreover i must add that my sound card is configured but it has to be detected everytime i log in. And its the case only in KDE. Whenever i log into GNOME it is already configured.
Everytime i log into KDE i have to run "Sound Detection" from the system settings menu everytime to let sound come out of my speakers.

Are you sure it's not simply case of KMix loading up when you log in to KDE, with the audio muted? As for why lspci doesn't work, are you sure you're definately root? If your card works under Gnome, it's obviously configured correctly, but would guess KDE is simply adjusting the volumes.
