Iam using compaq 450 MHz computer. The sound card is builtin in the board i.e
ES 1869 Control Interface (WDM)
ES 1869 Plug & Play Audio Device (WDM).
I have installed Mandrake Linux 8 as well as Red Hat Linux 8 in my system but Linux does't support this sound card where as the sound works fine under windows enviroment.
Plz guide me that how can i enable or use this card under Linux. If any one is already using under this configration plz guide me.
If it is not supported tell me that which PCI sound card should i purchase.
Ive got exactly the same problem, Im running a dual processor 450MHz workstation with mandrake 10.1 and theres no detection of my sound (Ive got the same onboard card as above, ESS 1869) Any help would be appriciated
I've recently got hold of a Compaq computer. I think it's a Compaq Deskpro EN SFF 500MHz.
I have installed FC4. However it doesn't seem to have detected the sound card/device which is built into the motherboard. Apparantly this is meant to be an ESS-1869 chipset.
I have read that I would need to run the old sound setup to set this up in linux, however, I'm not sure where to get "sndconfig" from.
The output of the commands mentioned is below. I don't see any mention of a sound device though.
