Sound Card Configuration Mandrake 10.0

Hello guys (and gals)

This is my first post on linuxquestions.org. I'm a newbie. I just installed Mandrake 10.0 on my HP Pavilion zv5000 notebook. I'm glad to say all went well, except it did not detect my sound card. Windoze tells me its a ( SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio ) from Analog Devices Inc. Location: PCI bus 0, device 20, function 5

HP Website tells me something like AC'97......

Any help would be greatly appreciated. My notebook is a:

HP Pavilion zv5000
P4 2.80 Ghz
512 meg memory

Mandrake 10.0 Official (download ver.)
kernel: 2.6.3-7mdk

If you guys (and gals) need more info just let me know.
I'm trying to learn linux. I hate Windoze.

Thanks in advance.

I'm guessing that you tried to configure it in the installation setup. Try typing alsaconf in the terminal. Maybe ALSA will detect it. If not, download the latest stable kernel (2.6.7) and its ALSA driver and maybe you'll have better luck with compatibility.

Did you ever get your sound card to work? I have the same computer and the same problems with the sound card and the modem. I downloaded all of the alsa files, ran alsaconf and got nothing. None of the mixers work.

I'm using the 2.6.7 kernel with Mandrake 10.0. LD
