Sound card apparently misconfigured, Possible issue concerning XMMS config

Hi, so I just installed fedora and played around with enabling XMMS for mp3 support, setting up gaim briefly, and now my sound card is all wacky. After I installed and before messing with anything else the test sound in the soundcard detection thing worked, but now it does not. When I attempt to play a sound file in XMMS I can see the sound visualization moving, and yet I hear no sound. System volume is up, speakers connected, on, and up. Its likely a stupid newbie error. Thanks for the consideration.

Yeah, similar issue here, but with the added complication that I can get xmms to play from command line (konsole) but not from Kde. Also tried updating it but no joy. What I haven't tried is a full uninstall it then reinstall; oh the joys of rpm !

Btw, running Kde 3.2 and Mandrake 10 with Kernel 2.6.3-7

Fixed, sort of

Incidentally, since I had just installed, and this seemed a bit pesky I just decided to reinstall. Doubt that counts as any sort of fix, but the problem is gone.

Sometimes using acpi=on as a kernel boot parameter will initialize integrated peripherals and devices that won't normally work on some boards, if you continue to have this working/not working problem with sound, use that string, and see if it help stabilize your devices at boot time.
