sound card


hello

i have a compaq notebook 100 and i just installed slackware linux 10.1
im a newbie and i really don't know how to make sound work
when i start xmms i get this message:

libmikmod.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

and when i try to change the volume in xmms i get:

** WARNING **: oss_set_volume(): Failed to open mixer device (/dev/mixer): No such device

what can i do?

Well, you'll either need to recompile xmms without mikmod support or install libmikmod, available here: http://mikmod.raphnet.net/

I'm not sure exactly what the flag is for disabling mikmod support in xmms but you can find out by before running the configure command.

Are you familiar with compiling software from source?
