Sort of a question
RedHat is available for sale in retail stores.
RedHat is available for free downloading it from the RedHat ftp servers. Is there a difference between the retail RedHat and the free RedHat other than the pretty box and the shrink wrap? Also, this is the site I'm downloading from: http://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/9/en/iso/i386/ What is the difference between shrike-SRPMS-disc1.iso and shrike-i386-disc1.iso? Thanks. Brian |
You buy it, you get some sort of support from Redhat, you might get some software that isn't included in a free download and of course, you get the pretty box, cd's they made for you, maybe some stickers and a small manual..
The SRPMS is a source disk, most likely you don't need that one.. |
Hi,
The difference between the retail Redhat is that you dont get the official manuals and some extra software (commercial). I'd say download it if you have a good connection. The difference between the SRPMS disk and the standard disk that the SRPMS disk has extra source code on it and is not required. Hope this helps Shak Go on, click my affero! |
