sorry modem doesn't respond

When I try to connect through my modem, I get the message
Sorry the modem doesn't respond.

On dialing again the second time. It connects without giving any errors.

How can I get rid of this error message the first time ?

I guess you can probably query it before you log in somehow to "exercise" it. I'm sure you can make a script to go thorugh the AT commands and suppress the error messages. I think you just run that at the start of your log in script and it "should" work (theoredically).

At commands are fine.
Seems that there is something wrong with pci.

My board pci controller and agp controller are not recognized by linux.
I have linux 7.3
Would doing a kernel upgrade fix the problem ?
